Word Soup

The detail of the questions is where the real richness of narrative lies, as it brings the fuzzy picture of a departmental work spectrum to some usable focus. The question metadata contain question headings, which give a good indication of the question content. If words are difficult to visualise, however, where can we get value from those headings?

The headings can be categorised by the number of times used, indicating the popularity of a topic. This is also unaffected where categorisation by Department fails, such as where a topic crosses Departments (“Brexit Issues” “Departmental Expenditure”). Categorisation by either question type or Department indicates “Hospital Appointments Status” is one of the more popular headings, for example, but question headings for the second-largest cohort of questions by Department, to the Department of Agriculture, are smaller in number and more disparate.
